Playing in a Band

If you've learn't to play the piano fairly proficently, which may be via a classical background and now you would like to play other syles of music in a band then these lessons can help you.

Typically you will be wanting to play with other musicians for example in a pop or rock band and would like to be able play piano or keyboards to 'fit in' and make a real contribution to the group.

You will learn skills to work with guitarists and other band members including understanding chord structures, 'riff's' and song arrangements.

It's a big advantage to be able to play by ear. So you will undertake exercises and training to become more fluent at this.

This leads onto, an introduction to composing your own music.

In addition we can cover technical aspects including different types of keyboards and synthesisers, live sound and PA equipment. Understanding, choosing sounds and arrangements that work with a band.

These sessions can be booked in blocks of a minimum of 1hour. You will need to be age 11+ and familiar with piano/keyboard playing. Although you don't need to have passed any formal graded piano exams you should have reached a standard of around ABRSM grade 3-4 to get the most from this tuition.
